Lord, Fix My Eyes On You

O' Lord, why do I resist your morning embrace, knowing that your comfort and healing awaits a humble heart? Many times I struggle to keep my carnality in check and suffer for it spiritually. Why do I neglect your perfect love for me and choose my mind over yours? No matter what calamity strikes, You have never failed me, yet I fail you time and time again; help me to fix my eyes on You Lord Jesus! Help me overcome my flesh and submit my will to Your perfection. Teach me to trust and follow You alone, having faith that You will remove any barriers that attempt to hinder my steps ordered by You. I praise You for all you've done in my life but I only crave You more. Do more in me Lord, fill me so full of your Holy Spirit that there is no room for anything else. May Your Spirit flow through my life so powerfully that others will be impacted by Your presence without a word spoken.
This was my prayer this morning and I pray it becomes yours as well. The Spirit of God spoke to me this morning about why I resist at times and at other times I humble myself before Him without another thought. During the times I resist Him, it is directly proportional to my most recent spiritual meal(s). We are constantly feeding our spirit as there are spirits in most everything we indulge in. What you're feeding your spirit can be easily felt by your spirit man (man = gender neutral) and has a direct impact on your thought-life (positive/negative). Spiritual feedings are what you read, watch, write, etc. If you choose to feed yourself violent/angry /perverted/vain/sexual/immoral, etc. things, these are contrary to the Spirit of God, which exalt carnality over humility toward God. If I indulge in things that are contrary to God, my resistance to His Spirit is evident and I ultimately miss out on His loving presence in my life. He desires to be with me at all times but I drive Him away with my carnal decisions, filling myself with vain imaginations and worldly ideology.
Jesus said,"You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind and all your strength". (Mark 12:30)
In Romans 8:5-8, the Bible says:
For those that live according to the flesh set their minds on things of the flesh, but those that live according to the Spirit, the things of the Spirit. For to be carnally minded is death, but to be spiritually minded is life and peace. Because the carnal mind is enmity against God; for it is not subject to the law of God, nor indeed can be. So then, those who are in the flesh cannot please God. . We must be mindful of what we feed ourselves! The world is drawing us away from our Lord and Savior because we are spiritually weak and unable or unwilling to resist what is softly and gently enticing us into self-destruction. When you are tempted to neglect your prayer time and time in His Word it's because you are feeding yourself things in opposition to the Spirit of God. Folks, I write this stuff based on my own experiences and what the Lord has taught, and continues to teach me. Let those that have a desire to please God and do His will have ears to listen!
A wise mentor taught me to pray read a chapter in Proverbs every morning to start my day off with wisdom and a sound mind. Before going to bed, pray and end your day by reading a Psalm, praising God for His goodness, provision, guidance, etc.. I make a practice every morning of not looking at my phone, looking at Facebook, reading e-mails, turning on a TV or feeding myself anything else prior to my prayer time and reading. Otherwise, the carnal things you have begun to feed yourself prior to spending time with God will consume your thoughts, warring with the Spirit of God. This is also why you should never go to bed angry or disturbed; settle the issue through repentence and/or just spending your last waking moments asking God to heal the wound. Otherwise, you will wake with the foul spirit of offense on your mind.
Put Him first and everything else will fall into place...
But seek first the kingdom of God and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you. Matthew 6:33
